Most people who are working toward losing weight and building muscle take caffeine. They get it in tea and coffee, they get it in soft drinks, and they get it in energy drinks. They can also take it in supplements of various kinds. However, if you want to get it in a different way – and a way that you might enjoy – you can get it in cocoa powder. You might not want to get your caffeine from cocoa powder if you need a lot of it, though, because there is not that much caffeine to be found that way. Some cocoa has more in it than others. When cocoa beans are harvested they are dried and fermented so that they can develop both color and flavor. The type of bean and the degree of fermentation are important in determining how much caffeine that particular bean actually has. 

Since the cocoa beans have caffeine, it stands to reason that the cocoa powder has caffeine, as well. However, it has less than one percent caffeine, no matter how it is processed. The amount usually varies between 0.1% and 0.5%. In the African cocoa beans that are most commonly used, 0.1% or less is the standard caffeine amount, so it would take a lot of cocoa powder to get the amount of caffeine that can be found from other sources. A lot of people like cocoa, though, and they will continue to use it to get some of their caffeine because they enjoy the flavor of it and feel as though it helps them. If you are looking for caffeine through food items, you might want to more carefully consider cocoa butter or chocolate, because chocolate generally has more of the chemical than cocoa. 

If you decide that you want to enjoy cocoa powder and the caffeine that you can find in it, you can get it in organic form. If it is truly raw and certified organic, it’s much healthier for you than the over-processed options that you can often find. It is processed from cocoa beans that are cold pressed. This turns them into a chocolate liquor and then the paste is cold pressed again at 112 degrees in order to separate out the cocoa butter, which is the fat from the beans. The cocoa solids are all that remain, and these are also called a ‘cake.’ This cake is cold milled, and this turns it into truly raw, organic, unsweetened cocoa powder.  

The flavonoids are the highest that can be found in any cocoa product because it is the least processed of the options that are available today. There are no extra ingredients in it and all the fat has been removed from it, so it’s an incredibly healthy form of chocolate. Flavonoids are an important part of healthy living because they have a lot of health benefits. Most people like chocolate, so if they can eat one of their favorite foods and also get health benefits as well as caffeine, there’s certainly no reason why they wouldn’t want to do that.
